| Hmm, I just got a fax at work and at the top, it says "Faxination."
That seems so unnecessary but I can't pin it down why. Let me think about this for a few minutes. | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |
| I'm enjoying High Fidelity right now. The movie was good but the book is way more interesting. The guy is desperate but funny at the same time. I like the way Hornby writes; it's like sitting down and listening to a friend and before you know it, a few hours have passed.
A couple more hours before I can leave work for the weekend. I'm going to play in M's home game tomorrow and play basketball on Sunday. Can't believe it's almost September.
I saw 'Crying Love from the Center of the World.' Man, that was good. I really liked the way the scenes looked as well as the story. | comments: Leave a comment |
| I just happened to be flipping channels that night so I Tivo-ed the interview.
Charlie asked Wong about his view of the politics of Hong Kong/China in addition to 2046.
Some interesting bits:
- Next year he'll do a movie with Nicole Kidman.
- The 2046 character played by Ziyi Zhang was a ballroom dancer; apparently in those days, women could make money at the clubs just through dancing; Wong said that normally, the dancers were not selling sex.
- As a child, Wong would go to movies with his mother; she passed before any of his movies came out. | comments: Leave a comment |

| Inspired by friends, I decided to come up with a list of my Top 100 Favorite Movies. I'm going to edit it fairly often. Here are the features of my list:
1. The numerical ranks are loose, meaning that I didn't necessary like #10 more than #11. But once there is a wider spread, there is a difference (#5 vs. #13).
2. I've seen fewer movies than the average person so there are some notable omissions. I saw the most movies in the 90s.
3. Only 3 movies by the same director (I have multiple movies by Spike Lee, Kubrick, Coen Brothers, Wong Kar Wai).
Top Movies:
1-10 Wings of Desire Tokyo Story Cinema Paradiso City of God Chung King Express In the Mood for Love Il Postino Trainspotting Amadeus Malcolm X
11-20
2001 Seven Samurai The Unforgiven The Professional Star Wars Menace II Society Snatch Shawshank Redemption Dr. Strangelove Goodwill Hunting

| It's been really slow at work so I've been doing some reading: poker blogs, personal finance articles, and random websites. Maybe I should do my 2004 taxes at work after putting it off so long.
D showed me a cool program that you download from Google. It gives you interactive aerial views of North America based on real satellite photos. I typed in my address and I zoomed in. It is amazing. I could see the bushes in my backyard.

| It's been a great series. Since the Pistons pulled it out in 7 against Miami, I think there is hope of them bouncing back with their incredible D.

| Played basketball yesterday with Shun and friends. The court we play on has a tennis court surface. It was puddled up but we used a towel to get rid of those. Then the sun came out and it all dried in 10 minutes. 3 on 3 for about 3 hours. Mike's brother Charlie is here so he played. Quick and tricky player.
I'm sore as heck. | comments: Leave a comment |
| Vancouver for Memorial Day Weekend. Stayed on Robson for the whole time with two friends from Seattle. So many good restaurants. Milestones had an awesome eggs benedict with shrimp and avocado. The beer up there is so strong and believe me, I didn't pace myself accordingly. All around good time.
They have a new casino up there. Non-smoking poker room with a digital screen waitlist. It was a good sign when I got dealt AA two hands in a row and won both with sets. I played the Doyle Brunson hand for the first time ever and won with a nut straight. It's not a hand I should expect though. | comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |
| Well, it was the cowboy's birthday last night and his sisters threw a party at a good Italian restaurant in Fremont. Then we went to a Thai-theme bar in Wallingford, had some good strong drinks, and inexplicably ended up at a North Seattle casino to play poker. We got there at 11:30 and the all 3 tables were full. But we got on in minutes. The casino has a jackpot where the best hand between midnight and 5:30am pays a certain amount. Last night it was $333.
So at 2:30 D gets the high hand with KKKKQ. This is a strong hand that can only be beat by stronger quad kings or any quad aces. They wrote D's name on the whiteboard and we played until 5:30. His hand held up and he won the jackpot. The poker tables closed and some of the dealers who know D really well wanted to buy him drinks. At 6am they started serving again. 6 ayem...
We got out of there at 10am. It was a sunny Sunday morning. I've never started drinking at 6am before. And I may never do it again.
I crashed at noon and got up at 6:30pm. It was one of the best birthdays nights I've been a part of because it was steady fun from dinner until noon the next day. A little surprised I was able to stay awake until noon.

| Tough loss to end the season. It was a high-caliber show on both sides. The real consolation is that it was one of the most competitive games I've seen this year. I guess the odds were against the Sonics. In the last ten years, no championship team has lost a starter for more than a couple of games. The famous Willis Reed game from the 70s was only for game 6 or 7 I think.
I wonder if they will sign Ray Allen this summer.

| it was nice out so i walked over to the mall during lunch and headed for radio shack. a group of friends got me a tivo for my birthday so i needed an rf splitter; with it, i can watch a different channel while my tivo records. little did i realize i needed four cables at $10 a pop. i bought the package anyway because i have to be able to switch.
the coolest thing about the tivo is that you can program it from any internet connection. i've done it from work a couple of times.
lovin' the playoffs. manu tore it up last night. he couldn't be stopped. too bad none of the sonics were on fire.
